Mother's Day is going to be a little (or perhaps, A LOT) different this year. In the midst of COVID-19, most of us are stuck at home, making visits to mom much more challenging, or even impossible (unless, of course, you live with your mom). This means that any annual brunch plans or spa dates will have to be put on hold until those services are back up and running and social distancing requirements are relaxed. Whether you live with your mom or not, it's still possible to celebrate Mother's Day in meaningful ways in 2020!

Gift Cards: Support small and local businesses by sending your mom digital gift cards for her favourite stores and restaurants.
Flowers: Send flowers from a local flower shop. Many shops now have contact-free delivery options!
Indoor Plants: Plants are perfect because they are aesthetic, clean our indoor air, and they last years (with a green thumb, of course!).
Cards: Whether it’s little kiddos painting with their hands to make a card for mom, or sending a handwritten note in the mail, there’s something extra special about a handmade card.
Deodorant: Want to make something practical that your mom needs? Try out this deodorant recipe.
Crafts and Artwork: Are you a knitter, painter, maker or creator? This is your chance to make something nice that your mom will love!
Home Cooked Meal and Baked Goods: Who doesn’t love to sit down to a meal that they didn’t have to make or eat cookies they didn’t have to bake? Yep, surely your mom will too.
At Home: Okay, so there are plenty of options here. If you live with your mom, she’s likely getting bucket loads of quality time. Maybe what she needs is some quality solo time to relax with a book or bath.
Virtually: Don’t live with mom? This is the perfect time for a Zoom call!
Yard Work: Live with mom or nearby? Head over to cut the grass or pull some weeds if she has a yard!
House Cleaning: If you live with your mom, pick up the extra slack by cleaning and doing chores you wouldn’t normally do.
Cooking: Going back to that idea of home cooked meal or baked treats, go all out and make sure mom doesn’t lift a finger in the kitchen on Mother’s Day! (Dads, if you're reading this, this goes for you too! Not the part about NOT lifting a finger in the kitchen, but the part where the mother of your children doesn't lift a finger in the kitchen lol)
Mother’s Day is really all about showing our gratitude
Ultimately, this year we just have to get a bit more inventive with celebrating Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is really all about showing our gratitude for the work of motherhood, and that doesn’t have to be done with a physical gift. It can be as simple as a hug or a Zoom call, or as elaborate as a bouquet of flowers and a digital gift card to her favourite restaurant. Do what makes the most sense for your given circumstances and your mother’s preferences!
And if you're a mom and you're reading this, Happy Mother's Day!
